The President of the Common Man’s Party (CMP), Mubarak Munyagwa Sserunga, popularly known as “Mugati gwa Butter,” has declared his party the genuine voice of ordinary Ugandans, promising to transform the political landscape ahead of the 2026 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Speaking on Sanyuka One on One, Munyagwa recounted the overwhelming support he received during his campaign tour across the West Nile sub-region, including districts such as Pakwach, Nebbi, Arua, Koboko, and Yumbe.
He emphasized that unlike other parties, CMP enjoys “organic support” from grassroots communities who rally behind its message voluntarily.
Munyagwa criticized the ruling NRM government for failing to deliver on key infrastructure and social services, asserting that his party has neutralized what he calls the ruling party’s coercive tactics.
He outlined CMP’s manifesto, promising bold reforms including replacing Swahili with French as Uganda’s national language, nationalizing the health and education sectors, and revisiting the East African Community Protocol to protect local interests.
The Lusaniya, CMP’s emblem, symbolizes unity, inclusiveness, and opposition to greed and corruption, according to Munyagwa.
Despite a short campaign window, he expressed confidence that CMP’s message of practical solutions and grassroots empowerment will resonate nationwide.
Munyagwa’s campaign will continue with rallies in Makindye, Rubaga, and Kawempe this week, followed by engagements in Western Uganda next week.
He joins a competitive opposition field including NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi, ANT’s Mugisha Muntu, FDC’s Nathan Nandala Mafabi, CP’s Elton Joseph Mabirizi, and NPP’s Robert Kasibante, all vying to unseat President Yoweri Museveni.
